Accustomed to finding public radio stations on the lower part of the FM radio band, beginning Monday, March 7, listeners in metropolitan Santa Barbara will be able to hear National Public Radio’s Southern California flagship station on the opposite end of the dial, at 106.9 FM. In addition to providing NPR’s daily and weekend newsmagazines, KCRW produces two daily award-winning public affairs programs hosted by respected journalist Warren Olney: Which Way, L.A.? covers local issues, and To the Point, distributed nationwide by Public Radio International, tackles current national and international news. KCRW is also acclaimed as a trendsetting music station, noted for its signature program, Morning Becomes Eclectic hosted by Music Director, Nic Harcourt. Harcourt produces a weekly nationally distributed "best-of" version of the program, called Sounds Eclectic, as well as a series compilation CDs of live in-studio performances, the most recent is called Sounds Eclectic 3. The station's website, www.KCRW.com streams the station's live signal, in addition to an all-music channel and a world news channel, and most previously broadcast programs are available "On Demand." In a significant recent development, KCRW's extensive line-up of talk/news and culture programs, as well as the complete roster of local commentators, are now available for "podcasting," automatic downloads of the program to MP3 players. The station anticipates presenting musical artists in local clubs that it supports on-air, under the banner of its cross-promotional series, KCRW Presents; ticket giveaways and cultural events of note in the Santa Barbara area will be announced alongside other calendar listings and announcements.
